影片改编自Mohamedou Ould Slahi的回忆录《关塔那摩日记》，讲述Slahi（塔哈·拉希姆 饰）被美国政府俘虏，在毫无指控与判决的情况下被关进了监狱，经受长达14年监禁与折磨。在即将失去希望之际，Slahi寻得辩护律师南希·霍兰德尔（朱迪·福斯特 饰）与助手特瑞·邓肯（谢琳·伍德蕾 饰）的帮助，他们在面对无数障碍的情况下，一同追求正义。在富有争议的主张及斯图尔特·库奇中校（本尼迪克特·康伯巴奇 饰）揭露的证据下，一个令人震惊的阴谋露出水面。

警觉、批评、抗争，是任何一个有良知的公民永远都要背负的重担。而用恐怖主义的方式去打一场反恐战争，又有什么意义呢？在这种愚行和悖论的尽头，既不可能有胜利，也不会有光荣。
【带表演的纪录片，这形容很准确，但我为了题材打五星】“The constitution doesn't have an asterisk at the end says, terms and conditions apply.”和“I'm defending the rule of law”这些话说起来容易。但我会纠结如果真的是因为“排除非法证据”，使得犯罪分子脱罪，这和公平正义不冲突么？可如果不排除，那就是纵容了公权力滥用，造成更多冤假错案。所以啊，这种道德上的两难，我只想说……人类真是没本事。
